Wimbledon is upon us and the Taylor Morris team are big tennis fans. Having just celebrated the Aspall Tennis Classic with a party at Bluebird, we’re keeping the tennis ball rolling with our latest Portraits Of London star, Katie Swan. The Bristolian-born player, who now resides in Wichita, has just turned 18 and is taking part in her first Wimbledon match this week. Safe to say, she’s not in Kansas anymore.
You grew up in Bristol but moved to Kansas four years ago. What do you miss most about the UK?
Initially I really missed family and friends but actually I now get to spend a lot of time in the UK as my coach, David Felgate, is based there.
Tennis takes up most of your time, but what do you most enjoy doing when off court?
I love meeting up with family and friends, going to the movies, listening to music. Normal teenage stuff!
You started playing at a very young age. What has been your most memorable moment to date?
It was fantastic when I reached the final of the Australian Open juniors when I was 15. I also loved having the opportunity to represent Great Britain at Fed Cup last year. It was great being part of the team and I learnt so much from the experience.
Who is your all time tennis icon?
Andy Murray of course!
What’s your regime like in the lead up to a tournament?
I have a really specific training and practice programme which I follow each day to ensure I am prepared. My preparation depends on the country I am in, the surface I am playing and the weather conditions. I am very careful about my nutrition and also ensure I get plenty of rest and sleep. At Wimbledon I am having the chance to practice with some great players which is really good experience for me and I love playing on the grass.
You travel quite a bit, what are your travel essentials?
Favourite pair of Taylor Morris Eyewear?
All the designs are really nice but probably my favourite is the Falcon.
